HEAD CRAFT COUNSELOR

(Must be at least 19 years of age or 1 year post high school; 1 year Brighton experience preferred.)

  • Set an example of a righteous Latter-day Saint in dress, speech, action, spirituality and fun at all times.
  • Be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.
  • Be available for training with the Brighton Council members over crafts to prepare for workshops and pre-camp.
  • Work with council members in purchasing all materials needed for the craft program.
  • Work closely with council members to inventory craft supplies at the beginning and end of the season.
  • Help plan workshops, get to know the staff, train Craft Counselors and prepare for the management of the Craft Shack during camp.
  • Attend all workshops, study assigned materials, and practice assigned camp activities (memorize songs, etc.)
  • Obtain a Utah Food Handlers Permit at own expense by pre-camp.
  • Participate in camp opening; fulfill assignments to get the Craft Shack ready for campers; carry out any other duties as given by the Directors and Brighton Council.
  • Attend and be on time for weekly Staff Meeting on Sunday evenings;  
  • Attend weekly Camp Leadership meeting.
  • Create and organize sample items and display boards with the help of assistant craft staff.  
  • Keep the Craft Shack and all craft equipment in good working order.
  • Be present in the Craft Shack during all scheduled camper craft times.
  • Be prepared to lead and motivate Beehive-age campers and fellow staff members.
  • Make the Craft Shack an uplifting environment; get to know the campers, encourage creative thinking, and look for ways to be a positive influence.
  • Report any camper or safety concerns to Directorship.
  • Be accountable and responsible for handling money, inventory and cash deposits.  Maintain an adequate inventory of craft materials at all times.
  • Collect the money in the Craft Shack each day; keep it counted and totaled.  Turn money into the financial council member each Thursday.
  • Submit mid-season personal evaluations.
  • Participate in end of season inventory and thorough cleaning to get the Craft Shack ready for winter.
  • In addition to housing and meals during the camp week, earn $3700 paid throughout the camp season.
