CUPCAKES, CARL, & MISTY'S SONG

I loved it when they made cupcakes for my birthday! I also liked the tater-tot casserole. I'm excited to be helping up there to get it ready for winter.

One time when I went down into the food cellar to get some items for meal prep with a few of the other KD’s, We discovered a nutcracker duck dressed like a hunter down there. We named him Carl, and took turns hiding him around the kitchen, and whoever found it first would get to hide it again, once everyone found it. We did that for the whole summer. It’s my favorite memory at Brighton for the year 2019!

At Brighton Girls Camp, my favorite experience was a short evening hike we did that ended in a campfire up on a hill. We looked at the stars and sang camp songs and I remember how beautiful it was. I always loved camp songs but my favorite was Misty's Song.

Many years later when I was dating my soon-to-be husband, I mentioned this experience and he told me that his mother, Cheryl, had written the song. She was a Brighton camp counselor in 1970 and her camp name had been Misty. She was so excited to hear that I knew and loved the song. She is still always touched when people remember and love it. When my daughter was born I drew pictures to go with the lyrics and made a Misty's Song book for her. She is 3 now and loves to look at the pictures and sing the song to herself.

While I was drawing the pictures it was nice to sit with my memories about what the lyrics had meant to me then at camp and also see how I had grown and changed and how they meant different things to me now. I am grateful for the time I spent at Brighton Girls Camp.
