HEAD COOK

(Must be at least 19 years of age or 1 year post high school;
​1 year Brighton experience required)

​
  • Set an example of a righteous Latter-day Saint in dress, speech, action, spirituality and fun at all times.
  • Be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.
  • Work with the Brighton Council member(s) to plan camp menus, Dutch oven preparation, kitchen management and workshops before camp.
  • Attend workshops, study assigned materials, get to know the staff, and participate in camp preparation activities. 
  • Obtain a Utah Food Handlers Permit at own expense by pre-camp.
  • Obtain Serve Safe Certification at camp expense by pre-camp.
  • Ensure that all staff have a Food Handler’s permit by pre-camp.
  • ​Participate in camp opening; fulfill assignments to get the kitchen and supplies ready for campers.
  • Work closely with the council member(s) to inventory food and equipment at the beginning and end of the season.
  • Be trained and demonstrate knowledge on all kitchen equipment to instruct kitchen staff.
  • Attend and be on time for weekly Staff Meeting on Sunday evenings.
  • Attend weekly Camp Leadership meetings.
  • Work with council members to coordinate with food suppliers; order food and kitchen supplies while staying within budget.
  • Work with Directors for immediate kitchen staff supervision.
  • Prepare food according to menus for food allergies and special needs of campers.
  • Supervise the kitchen work of all kitchen staff.  Be an example of a supportive co-worker and a voice of encouragement at all times.
  • Serve as a counselor for kitchen staff.  This includes holding kitchen staff devotionals, morning prayers, etc.
  • Assist council members in planning and preparing food for special occasions such as Brighton Banquet and Christmas Week.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions in the kitchen and other food areas as outlined.
  • Report any problems to the Directors or council members over the kitchen and work under their direction toward a solution.
  • Submit mid-season personal evaluations.
  • Participate and direct a thorough inventory and “end of season kitchen cleaning.” 
  • Return and participate in camp closing; help with final cleaning and winterizing of kitchen.
  • In addition to housing and meals during the camp week, earn $4,000 paid throughout the camp season.
