Hello, my name is Roo!
I have so many stories. I worked up at Brighton 4 different summers. Even though they were all different years, the spirit up at Brighton was the same. The love of our Savior is up there at camp. My testimony grew every year I worked up there. I sadly didn't have the opportunity to be a camper because I hadn't heard of Brighton Girls Camp until my cousin, Carebear, invited me to work there in 2011. That's when it all started.
In 2011, I worked as a kitchen staff member. Preparing food for 300+ was hard work but so rewarding. Getting up every morning at 6am prepping and cooking food, I would be exhausted but then having opportunities to go be with the campers with their counselors, I couldn't pass up on the opportunity. Joining them in Dutch oven cook outs, going on hikes, and most importantly, being a "brownie" up on brownie rock. So many staff members wanted to be brownie so they would join us.
We had some lovely volunteers show up at Brighton this week!
They happily trimmed some trees for us!
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic Brighton Girls Camp was unable to open this summer. But, we’ve turned lemons into lemonade and taken advantage of this 99th summer to perform much needed maintenance and upgrades.
All the cabins will have beautiful new floors, a new country door was added to the craft shack allowing easier access to the stock room, roofs were repaired, the water system was upgraded, hundreds of hours of love and TLC went into sanding, painting our wooden walkways, decks, walls and railings. We’re so grateful to all those who have lifted heavy logs, spread chips, created benches, painted, replaced equipment, etc, etc, etc…the list of blessings seems endless.
Brighton size hugs and “Thank You” go out to our Missionary and Maintenance couples who have kept close watch over camp this summer, and worn out their backs getting Brighton Girls Camp into pristine shape.
A big shout out to all those from sponsoring stakes who gave up their Saturday to help make all these projects a success. Girls will be grateful for all your efforts and love for the next 100 years.
